3 Reasons Your Awards Website Should Have an Archives Page

Published July 17, 2014 in Leadership

I’m a big fan of archive pages. If I’m checking out an organization’s website, you’d better believe before I’m done I’ll have hunted down their archive page to learn more. It’s great to use as a reference in order to get a better idea of the organization and see how it’s developed over the years. It’s like having a professional yearbook.

And they’re really important for your awards website. An awards website’s archive page is a place devoted to previous awards seasons, highlighting the past winners. But there’s more that an archive page is good for besides being a place to store information. In fact some of these benefits are things you may not have realized.

What am I talking about? Besides the obvious, archive pages can…

  1. …serve as reference material for future entrants. Being able to access information about previous awards seasons gives them get an idea of the kind of entrants that have been successful in the past, which in turn can help them put together a better application. It can not only help them out by answering some general questions about applications, but, as a result, could also mean less questions for support and better material to judge. Who doesn’t win here?
  2. …give legitimacy to your awards program. The archives present visitors with a visual representation of the history of your program. By putting up summaries of past awards seasons you’re showing the approximate time it has been running and the success and popularity of each years’ program.
  3. …provide continued recognition for past winners. An archive page allows you to continue to honor those who won in past years. It also gives them a location with information on their entry for them to refer back to when needed. This is especially great if you include a killer gallery for them to utilize (and an added bonus: this can result in a nice little bit of marketing for your program too!).
