Published July 2, 2015 in Leadership

Twitter is one of the most popular social networks, with more than 300 million active users sending over 500 million tweets daily. As such, it’s become an important facet of countless organization’s marketing. And shouldn’t your awards program be part of this massive daily conversation too? Definitely!

But becoming a successful member of the Twitterverse isn’t easy or intuitive for everyone. There’s more to it than creating a profile and tweeting whenever you remember. You have to build a presence that provides valuable content during and after your program. And then you have to take time to interact with your followers and other active users. So we understand that jumping into it can be daunting. But it doesn’t have to be!

There are a few key pointers that will help jumpstart your Twitter the right way. And the best way to learn is through examples! Below we’re going to discuss the four different awards programs’ Twitter accounts and how they’re using it for success.

What Makes for a Successful Twitter Profile?

Before we get started, let me reiterate: no Twitter profile is perfect. So don’t let yourself get too bogged down trying to make it so. However, there are several best practices you can follow to optimize your profile and get you started on the road to success.

They include:

So how are some established Twitter accounts doing with these best practices? Let’s take a look.

1. The Clio Awards (@ClioAwards)

The Clio Awards epitomizes a successful Twitter presence by including not just one or two of the qualities above, but many. Let’s break down what they do best:

  • Active AccountThe Clio Awards tweets multiple times per day. They cover a diverse range of topics happening in the advertising industry and within their own awards program as well.
  • Unique HashtagsThe Clio Awards are divided into subsections for different industries. To simplify organization, they’ve created specific hashtags for each subsection like “#ClioHealthcare” and “#ClioMusic”.
  • Description and Link to WebsiteTheir description is succint, but still informative enough to give you an idea of what their program is all about. They also link not only to one website, but two! This is especially good for awards programs with multiple awards.

2. The Webby Awards (@TheWebbyAwards)

The Webby Awards’ Twitter profile is a whimsical, attention-grabbing combination of color and content. And, like The Clio Awards, they showcase some of the best of what Twitter has to offer:

  • Custom Header PhotosThe Webby Awards’ profile features a neon pink display with some key info about their program. This immediately your captures attention, encouraging you to stick around.

The TPAS Awards is a program out of Manchester in the United Kingdom. Like the programs above, they also have exceptional qualities in their Twitter presence:
